Well it's been awhile since my last post, but who really cares.

I am posting from my dad's house in Texas. My brother was flying out here to see him and my grandpa and my dad offered to pay for a ticket if I wanted to come too. I just got here last night so I don't have anything else to say about it. When I get back to Florida I'll post pictures from some of the stuff we did.

Christmas was kind of boring this year. Last year I made dinner for a bunch of friend and we hung out. This year I just sat at home, cleaned the house some, and cleaned out my car. It was nice to just relax because Christmas time is really busy at Target. My store did great in sales regardless of the "failing" economy.

Everything else is going great. I am still looking for a new job that will make use of my Masters. There a couple of positions that I need to send resumes out for, one is with Target's corporate office in Minneapolis. Another one was for an Assistant Project Manager for a game development company. Assistant to anyone is kind of below my degree but I know that I need to start at the bottom and work my way up.

Like I mentioned I will post again once I get back to Florida. Later Gators.

I have been taking a couple months off from responsibility to just relax after 3 years of school. All that I have been doing is working at Target, which is really just enough to pay the bills, and playing video games. Now the time for fun is over and I really have to start looking for a job that will allow me to make the payments on my school loans and still have enough money to live on. This will be an interesting task being that I only have 2 months to complete it. I have an appointment with career development at Full Sail on Wednesday to see how they can help me. I am also thinking about applying for an ETL position with Target. The starting pay as an ETL is enough to meet my above mentioned monthly fiscal demands.

Anyway this is a short post because I have to get ready for work. I will try to update a little more to keep everyone updated on my job search.

Graduation

Two posts back to back, this cannot be.

I realized that I have been remiss in mentioning that I graduated from Full Sail University with an Entertainment Business Masters for Science on June 27th 2008. HIP HIP HOORAY!!! Unfortunatly, all of my pictures from graduation are on my desktop computer in Florida and I am in Cali. So, I will post pics later.

Now I have to go through the process of finding a job where my degree will be useful. Anyone know of any?

Anywho, I am going to enjoy Cali while I am here and try not to spend too much time on the computer.

Sometimes I get bored in class I will write a song or, more often than not, just a verse. But this is one of those rare occasion where I actually wrote a full song. 2 Months Have Gone By!!!

I really lost track of time there.

Life has really been the same around here. I have been doing decent in school. Grades have not quite been what I was hoping for, but I am working almost 30 hours a week and have not been putting as much in to school work as I should. The good bit of news is that I am almost done and will be able to find a real job soon.

Speaking of jobs, work it is going along as usual. Target is a great company to work for if you don't mind the stupid and sometimes crazy guests.

With graduation coming up it will be nice to see my family again. I have gone a year without seeing anyone, but my dad when he was in town a couple of months ago. I am thinking about visiting Cali after graduation for a little R & R and a chance to catch up with friends from back home. I have been looking at tickets and they are still too expensive and I am hoping that they will drop some in the coming weeks.

I applied for a job at Turner Broadcasting but they sent out emails saying that due to an overwhelming interest in the positions that they would be contacting people by May 9th for further consideration. I was not contacted. I was a little scared to turn in my application because I always doubt myself as far as my skills as a valuable employee go.

And a general note, if you have not seen Iron Man please do so soon.

I have been really remiss about posting and I don't even have an excuse.

I guess I can start will school. While I have not had a lot of homework to do lately, class has been really good. The class that I am in right now is Advanced Entertainment Law and I have one of the same instructors from my Bachelor program and she's great. Being that it is a law class, it is a little boring at times but it really could be much worse. My class last month was really boring and it covered a lot of information that was taught in other classes.

Now work. Work has been really interesting. Target did some management reconstruction and severally cut hours, it is really hurting moral at my store. Back in September I applied for a team lead position, but I didn't get it because of some BS reasons. After I finished my Masters I was considering applying for an ETL position with Target because the starting pay is enough for me to make my loan payments and still have money to live on. But with the changes that Target has made, I am thinking that it is not such a good idea.

And now for the last bit of news. My roommate got married about a week ago and I had to move into a new place. I found this great place about one mile from campus. Because it is so close, I am able to ride my bike or walk to campus now. I moved in with a guy from work that needed a place too. The apartment is three bedrooms, two baths, and is 1270 sq. feet for $1000 a month. If you want my new address drop me an email or leave a comment.

I hope to be able to post more often, but I'll see how that goes.

I am working on a paper of school right now and was listening to a podcast about doing business in China. I the podcast mentioned that you can get the death penalty for evading the Chinese VAT (value added tax). Of course that is the worst case scenario, you could just go to jail for life.

Just thought that I would throw that little bit of happy information out there. Now I am back to my papers.

I was looking at the list of video games that are coming out over the next couple of months and I realized that I won't be able to buy all the ones that I want. Thankfully Christmas is close and my birthday is closer. Without further adieu, here is the list:

If these game were all spread out over eight months, it would make it easier to buy them all. But, most of them come out before Christmas.

If you are friend of mine of mySpace you will know this story. I will try to keep this long story short. A couple of weeks ago I opened a new WAMU checking account so that I could save the $5 a month that I paying for a Plus account. Shortly before this I loaned some money to a friend and they wrote me a check to pay me back and I deposited it into my new checking. The check was taking forever to clear and when the process finally finished WAMU bounced the check. I know that the money is in their account but WAMU has messed up her accounts too. When WAMU removed the funds from my account they removed the funds from the "Available Balance" on my account instead of the "Ledger Balance" because the funds were never deposited into my account. A couple of days later WAMU fixed their mistake and my account returned to a positive balance. I started using my debit card again and then my card stopped working. I called WAMU and they told me that my account was being closed because of the returned check. I asked multiple times why my accounts were being closed because of someone else's mistake and no one could tell me why. That is about as short as I can make that story, in the letter that I am writing to WAMU it took up two full pages.

I have been doing lots of other fun things, but being that I am sitting in class right now I need to return to paying attention, so I will post them later.

New Phone and Service

I recently moved my cell phone service from AT&T over to a new carrier called Helio, don't worry I have the same phone number. I get a lot of really cool features and this awesome phone.
The phone is called the Ocean, well Helio say "Don't call it a phone". I get 500 minutes and unlimited everything else. It is really nice to have the freedom to text as much as I want and to and check my email when am expecting an important message. It is also the first phone that makes using MySpace easy on the mobile web. If you want to visit my MySpace click on the link in the links section on the right.

I'm Back

...well actually I never went anywhere. I have been really busy with school and work, so remembering to post is the last thing on my mind.

One of the fun things that I did three weeks ago was to go down to Miami for a Halo 3 Release Event. I was pursued to go with some of my friends from work. We were going to leave late Sunday night and and spend all of Monday at South Beach and then go to the event Monday night. One of the guys has epilepsy and was afraid that he might have a seizure if he did not get any sleep. We decided to leave Monday afternoon and go straight to the event.

The event was not what we all thought that it would be, and when I say we, I mean everyone that was standing in line. It was still fun though with over one hundred people in line. Of course with all those people and being that we were in Miami, it was horribly humid. Here is a picture of a guy that is dressed up as the Master Chief (the main character of the game):
I know that I mentioned that I wanted to get better grades in the Masters than I did in the Bachelors program. I have not been able to do that yet. I have probably been working more than I should, but the living expense money that I took out of my school loans is really light in the beginning of the program. The one check that I have gotten was $1500 and that had to last two months. My next check is going to be the same amount and has to last three. I am going to be really low on cash by the time I get my third check.

Anyway, I am sitting in class right now and should probably be paying attention. Later Gators

Here is a great story from right here in Florida:

"FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- A 16-year-old boy told detectives he killed his parents because he didn't want to disappoint them anymore, according to a police documents. Jacob Brighton said he shot his parents last month because he always felt like a disappointment to them because he didn't have a job, smoked marijuana and didn't share the same "qualities or interests" as his father, according to the recently released documents. "So there's nobody, now there's nobody to be disappointed in me, try to make me lead ... their life," Brighton said.

Brighton pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Richard Brighton, 47, and Penny Brighton, 46, in their Fort Pierce home. He could get life in prison if convicted. "There are some things in his young life that happened that will shock and disturb the community," said his attorney Darren Shull. "They are traumatic events that happened to Jacob." Shull declined to elaborate. Brighton was being held without bond. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story."

Drawing Colored

A couple of posts ago I put up a drawing that I did in class one day. Well, my friend is storing his computer at my house and he has a Wacom drawing tablet and he said that I could use it and his computer. His computer was built for film and picture editing, so it is super nice. I took that picture and opened it in Photoshop and started to redraw and color it in. Here is the end result.Granted it is nothing really special, I am happy with it. Remember that I mentioned I can barely draw a straight line.

I finished my second month of the Master program today. I really liked this month, it was a lot more hands on and less abstract. And now, because of the Labor Day, I have a six day weekend. I know that it will go fast though being that I have to work every day of it.

I hope that everyone that is in school, or teaches it, is having a good time back at the grind. Too everyone else, keep fighting the good fight.

Wildest Weather

Just in case you thought about moving to Orlando, like I did, you might want to read this first: "Visiting Disney World anytime soon? Have fun, but watch for storms moving in. The odds of having to duck away from a bolt of lightning in the land of Disney's Magic Kingdom, Orlando, Fla., are greater than anywhere else in America."

"That's what happens when hot air that rises during the summer months in the state's central region draws the wet air from both coasts; the resulting mix means a ton of late-day thunderstorms that spew out as many as 40,000 bolts of lightning. Overall, Florida has been home to over 1,500 lightning deaths and injuries since 1959, according to the National Weather Service." Tom Van Riper, Forbes.com, July 20, 2007.

Just to clarify one thing that the article fails to mention clearly, the 40,000 lightning bolts are PER DAY. Right now though we have had little rain. The storms tend to have about a run of 3-5 days. For a couple of days it is just cloudy, like right now, and then rain moves in light one day and steadily gets heavier until you have a couple of days with down right scary storms, I like these days, and then on the last couple of days it starts to rain less, until one day it's just cloudy again and then no clouds, just heat. Not that anyone really cares about the weather in Orlando, Florida.

I am now off to right a one page business plan proposal for a my Masters Program. In about 11 months you can call me Eric House, M.S. or E.B.M.S., any thoughts on which one is better? By the way E.B.M.S. stands for "Entertainment Business Masters of Science" vs. M.S. just standing for "Masters of Science".

I like the guy on there that has the most recordings, especially his version of "The World I Know". Unfortunately the site is in "beta" right now and has a lot of bugs. Live has been good for me back here in Florida. My class this month is much better than last month, no offense Jeff (in case he reads this). The class is Project and Team Management. I think what makes it better is that the class is more hands on and less abstract then Executive Leadership.

Drawing

So, I was bored the other day in class and I drew this picture. I am no artist and can hardly draw a stick figure, so I thought that this was pretty good.Anyway, speaking of school, I am doing okay. The concept of leadership is a pretty abstract subject to teach and try to understand. One minute the book says one thing and the next minute it contradicts itself. I am learning quite a few thing that I did not know before, so I guess that it is helping.

I have been voted the treasurer of an organization on campus called MEISA (Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association). I have a nine month term and the five of us officers hope to make some much need improvements to the chapter. You can check out the organization at MEISA.org.

I went and say Harry Potter this morning and was not very impressed with it. It seemed short for a movie that was a little over two hours. There was one part where they kind of did a montage (I think that is the word that I am looking for). I think that the best part was at the end with the big fight between the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix. The fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort was pretty cool too. Other than that, I thought that the movie was at best mediocre. The three main leads do a great job and there were lines and even whole scenes that were added.

I started school today and realized that this degree will be an interesting journey. I know that the Masters Degree will be worth the effort but it will be hard. In order to graduate I have to have a GPA of 3.0 or more. The first day of class was a little slow but I know that it will pick up. Plus there are are only 12 people in my class, making class discussions very interesting. I won't be able to hide and get away without saying anything.

I hope that everyone is having a great summer. I am going to end with a little something that I wrote a couple of years back. It is part of a song that I was working on at the time:

I don't really have a title for this post.

I was getting ready to cook diner tonight and looked out the kitchen window and saw this:

I thought that it was a pretty stunning view. Of course I took eight pictures and this is the only one that looks good.

Early Sunday morning, like 1am, I went paint balling for the first time. The only really bad hit that I took was in the back of the hard, and that wasn't even that bad because the shot came from all the way across the field. The group of people that I went with were people that I currently work with or people that I used to work with. It was a really fun time for all of us. We finished playing about 4am and I got home about 5:30am.

I am going to watch Harry Potter at 9am because I did not feel like going to a midnight showing. As always I have to go the movies by myself, which is fine when you go to a movie like Transformers, but with a movie like Harry Potter I might get a couple of strange stares.

Tranformers: More Than Meets the Eye

Some might think that this movie is for the super nerd and Transformer fan boys/girls, I personally do not think this is so. I kind of fall into the first category, but I don't fall in the last one. I like sci-fi movies and what is better than giant robots from space. I personally think that the visuals for the movie were outstanding and the CGI work was a masterpiece. The movie had many funny moments that were appropriate for the scenes. Looking back at Spiderman 3, I remember laughing at the movie because of some of the absolute stupidity of the moment. For Transformers I was laughing because it was actually a humorous moment or line.

The CGI characters had character. The yellow Camaro/Bumblebee reminded me of Herbie the VW Beetle. There is also one scene where the Autobots are trying to hide outside a house and they are in their robot form. Imagine a robot taller than a three story building trying to tiptoe around.

If this were some sort of official rating I would give the movie 4 out of 5 stars. The reason for the 4, even with all my high praise for the movie, is because the story line was a little old. I would say what it is but I don't to give it away.

Kayaking

As one of the things that we did while my mom and brother were here last week was to go kayaking down the Wekiwa River here in Florida. It was a very beautiful trip. Here are some pictures that were taken:

In regards to the last picture, we actually saw two alligators during the trip but I liked this one better because this guy is about two feet longer than the other one. I think that they were more interested in the sunning than lunch.

I also got a pretty decent sun burn from the 3 hour trip. It is something that I will defiantly have to do some more.

I don't start school again until July 12th, so I have just been chilling and working.

Today is the day. After my hard work over the last nine months, I get to dawn my cap and gown and walk across the stage shaking the hands of my instructors as I go. My family as flown in from all over the country to see me and my graduation.

It has been a rather boring week without school and not getting to see the friends that I have made there, though I do enjoy just getting to sit around and play video games all day or after work. Work helped to break up the monotony of just sitting at home, plus it is fun to tell the guests and fellow team members that I am graduating and rub it in their noses that I will be gone for two weeks.

I hope that all the none existent readers of my blog have a nice summer.

Woot, Done!!!

So, I am officially done with my Bachelor in Entertainment Business. I got an A in my last month and A's in both my classes last month. That puts my final GPA at 3.65. Better than I did in the Recording Arts program and better than I did at Cuesta College. I now have five weeks off until I start the Masters in Entertainment Business program. That program is 12 months long and I am going to try harder in that program and see if I can get a better GPA.

Today is the first day of hurricane season and there is already a tropical storm headed for Florida. It is supposed to come over tonight and we should be at the end of it by Saturday evening.

There is really not much else going on. I do remember saying a couple of months ago that I was trying a new church and that I kind of liked it. Well Easter Sunday was the day that I said to myself, "If I like the service today I am going to stick with this one." Well frankly, the service sucked. In my opinion on Easter Sunday you should do an Easter Sunday sermon. You know the one, Christ died for your sins and rose again again three days later, so you should love him for that, type of sermon, and the paster didn't. I might have been able to forgive this, if it had not been a sermon on evangelism. I think that the last thing that you want to preach to a bunch of people that only came to church out of guilt, is that they need to spread the word of Christ. These people won't know what to say to others because they don't have that personal relationship with Christ that regular church goes do. I think that is enough ranting. Needless to say I am looking for a new church again and have been to busy to start.

Double A

I did it again I got an "A" in both of my classes last month. I was pretty jazzed about it.

I have decided to take the Entertainment Business Masters degree and will be starting that in July and will finish in August 2008. I have been happy with the education that I have received from Full Sail so far and hope that this will continue on the same trend.

My spring break was rather boring, all that I did was work and watch TV. I was nice to have the week off of school but I really want to get this degree program over with so that I can move on the next one.

I will be moving all of my pictures on to my website in about a week or so. You can visit it now but there is nothing there; youmighbedead.com. There is a miss spelling there it was supposed to be youmightbedead.com but I miss typed it when submitting it to my instructor. I will probably purchase the right one here pretty soon.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Last year I went back home to Cali for Easter break but this year, I decided that I needed to save the money and stay in Florida and work. My boss felt kind of bad for scheduling my almost 40 hours for the week and I said that it was okay.

The biggest news that I have right now is that I paid off the credit cards that were holding a balance, don't worry they were at 0% interest. Now all of the money that I make at work is MY MONEY. With exception that I have a ton of school loans to pay off.

I hope that everyone has a good Easter.

New Picture Site

The site that I was using to host my pictures has changed to a pay service, so I have to find a new site to host my pictures. In one of my classes this month we get a our own domain name, so will be posting pictures there for the world to see, not that anybody actually looks at them anyway. My other option is to put them on a new site that I found called iStockphoto.com.

I am in classes and think that maybe I should be paying attention, but I don't think that I have missed anything so far.

My Sister's Wedding

Back at the beginning my sister got married and I was able to fly out and attend it. I know that I already wrote about this but I got the pictures that I ordered in the other day and I wanted to post the one of all three of us siblings.

Probably the most quoted movie line from the new movie "300".

I tried to see the movie at 11:59pm on Thursday night but when I got to the theater all seven screens were sold out. I was able to go and see it on Friday night and see the DLP (Digital Light Projection) version. DLP is basically the movie on a DVD; the quality is better than film and the audio is usually better too. Now for me review:

I think that 300 was amazing. Because it was a graphic novel, somethings the backgrounds looked a little drawn, which was fine with me. From my understanding 95% of the film was shot in front of a green screen. I think that the acting as amazing, too. Most of the actors in the film are nobody's. Something that surprised me was that there was humor in the movie and some really good lines that warranted "Ouch, that had to hurt". There was no language, but some nudity and sexuality.

There was quite a bit of blood in the movie, but that is to be expected from a war movie.

I think that I would give it 9 out of 10. This is a must see while it is in the theaters, because it will lose awesomeness if viewed at home.

Well, I'm sitting in class right now and I should really be paying attention to what is going on.

Time is Flying!

I thought that it had been like two weeks since my last post and it has four weeks, oops.

School is good. I have been working harder than ever trying to keep my GPA above a 3.5 and working as much as possible so that I can finish paying off my credit cards. I am so close to having them gone that I can taste it. Full Sail has announced that they will be offering a Masters of Science in the some field as a am getting my Bachelor in right now. I am still contemplating whether or not to take it. It is an additional 13 months and another $28k. This would mean that in three years of school here I will have obtained an Associates, a Bachelors, and a Masters. Three degrees in three years is pretty good.

I have found a church that I like. It has a really smaller congregation than I am used to, but they all seem to really like it. I have only been three times of the last 6 weeks, but I am trying to take it slow and ease myself in to the congregation.

I wish that I could implant some words of wisdom right here, but I cannot thing of anything good to say.

I hope that I will more to say next time that I post, but I have school work in my mind right now and cannot think of anything else interesting to talk about.

A New Saying

Not that anybody actually reads my blog, but I thought that I would ask what you guys/gals think that this might mean:

"Where there's a way, there's a way around." Instead of "Where there's a will, there's a way."

I came to me the other day at work and I thought that I would share it.

I started two new classes on Monday. So far they are both pretty good, of course I have only had each class once.

The big news is that I finished watching every single episode of every single season for all of the Star Trek TV series. NO I DO NOT CONSIDER THAT NERDY/GEEKY, nerdy/geeky would have been to actually buy all of them rather then rent them from NetFlix. I was just bored and wanted to watch them. I have yet to decide what to watch after I watch the Star Trek movies, but I am thinking that I am going to get the DVDs for the TV series 24.

Well I have reading to finish for class tomorrow. Hope that everyone is doing well.

Life

I just felt like I wanted to type a post and I don't what to talk about.

School is crap. Well I should say that one class is crap and the other is okay. I have one week left for this month and I cannot wait to get out of it. My Microeconomics teaching has no idea what she is talking about. Half the time we correct her about the material that she is "teaching". The other day she made an excuse about not have having math in a while and she was trying to subtract 90 and 70; and she had come up with an answer of 10. That is just the tip of the ice burg. My Intellectual Property class is great. The instructor really knows what she is talking about. I got a 29 out of 30 on the midterm and the full 22 points on the labs and in-class assignments.

Anyhow it is my groups turn to talk to her about our project.

If you know me or have many of my posts here, you might realize that I am a bit of a gadget freak. I now have a new computer, a Nintendo Wii, a Sony Playstation 3, and an Xbox 360. Now that Apple Inc. has introduced the new iPhone, I want one. The bad news for me is that it costs the same amount as the PS3. I think that I am going to have to start saving money like I did with for the PS3, which I ended up using on a plane ticket and my Nintendo Wii, and bought my PS3 with living expense money from school loans. School is in full swing and the classes aren't too bad. My Microeconomics class is good and boring. Full Sail gives us these "great" MacBooks and my instructor won't let us leave them on during class. She thinks that we all will be IMing during lecture. Of course I have nobody to IM with so I would just end up surfing the internet and taking note. But I like the philosophy that my Intellectual Property instructor has, and that is that we paid a lot of money to go to Full Sail and that if want to waste it by spending our class time surfing the internet and playing games on our laptops it is our money to waste and who is she to tell us how to spend our money.

New Computer

So, because my old computer had decided to slow bite the dust I decided that it was time to build a new computer. My video card had died about 2 months ago and every once and a while it was not see one of my hard drives. The sad part was that I had just put another gig of RAM. I spent a lot of time over Christmas break finding the parts that I wanted. In the end I spent around $300 more that I had originally intended, but the computer rocks. The specs are (this might be uninteresting if you don't know much about computers):

- Antec P180B Case
- AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+ CPU
- 1GB of Crucial Ballistix PC6400 DD2 RAM
- XFX nVidia 7900 GT Video Card
- 160GB SATA2 Western Digital Hard Drive
- Xion 600W modular Power Supply
- Asus CrossHair Motherboard

While that's all. I reused the CD/DVD burner and another 160GB hard drive from my old computer. I also already had a really nice LCD monitor that I bought a while back.

Made it back to Florida safe and sound, with only a cold.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

I would be lying if I said that my time in San Luis Obispo has been uneventful. I got in on Wednesday at 1:30am and lazed around all day after waking up. Thursday is when all the fun began. I had dropped my mom back off at home after lunch and took her car so that I could do some Christmas shopping. She called me about 20 minutes later and told me that I needed to come back and pick her up because my brother had cut his left hand on the table saw at work and it was pretty bed, something like a mangle and twisted finger. Of course when you are in a hurry there is always someone driving slow on a one lane road.

We got the hospital about 10 minutes after Brandon did. Over the course of the next 7 hours the hospital called three different hand specialists to see if they would do the surgery and none of them wanted to, one of them didn't feel like he could do job right and they bugged him three time for some reason. The ER doctor ended up stitching my brother's hand up loosely and sending us to the hand specialist in Santa Barbara for an appointment on Friday.

So, Friday was spent on the road to and from Santa Barbara and sitting on the waiting room from an hour and a half while the work on repairing his hand.

Anyway, everything is fine now and his hand is a soft cast with pins in the split bone and knuckle in his ring-finger. The good news is that he got to keep is fingers.

That is enough bad news for such a happy day.

One Week Later

Well NASA scrubbed the shuttle launch on my birthday last week, and because I was in California on Saturday for my sister's wedding, I also missed the launch on Saturday night. But my friend from school sent me pictures, so I was able still able to see it.

Speaking of the wedding, it was nice. My mom was going to be two hours late picking me up from the airport in Orange, CA so I called my sister and she came and picked me up. Of course my sister isn't good with directions, so when I told her to turn onto the 55 headed North, she didn't remember ever seeing the 55 as a way to get to the chapel, of course that could be because she always comes from the North and wouldn't know that that was a why to get there. So three hours later, we finally arrived at the Chapel and we were still 2 hours early.

Saturday was a very long day, being that I had to be at the Chapel at 9am and then left the reception at 3pm. After returning to the hotel, we watched my sister and her now husband open up a couple of their gifts. I then went with my Grandpa back to the reception site, being that he owns it, and helped do a little setup for the next event. Then went to dinner at Olive Garden and back to hotel for some much needed sleep, which I still didn't get much for because I had to be up early on Sunday so that I could catch my flight back to Florida.

Anyhow, I will be back in Cali on the 19th of Dec and will be leaving on Jan 4th. I hope to meet up with some friends while I am out there.

On the east coast it is offically my 25th birthday. FUN FUN FUN!!! NASA is going to light a really big candle for me, oddly enough it's shaped like a space shuttle. Yeah, so that is what I am doing for my birthday, going to see the shuttle Discovery launch from Cape Canaveral, along with school and a midterm.

My sisters wedding is on Saturday, so I will be in California over the weekend. I then come back to Florida for a little more than a week and then back to California on the 19th for Christmas and back to Florida on Jan. 4th so that I can start school on the 8th. Nothing like having the next month all planned out.

I bought a Nintendo Wii when they can out a couple of weeks ago. It was kind of fun to hang around a bunch of people that I didn't know all night. And of course it had to be one of those strangely cold nights. The system is a lot to fun to play, unfortunately I have been too busy as of late to even turn it on. Oh well, I have all of Christmas break to play.

I have to turn in for my five hours of sleep so that I can get up early and finish studying for that midterm.

The Twister

So last night there was a tornado warning while I was a work. Nothing happened there but my house was a different story. Fortunately nothing was damaged, but it was interesting to see the debris around the house and then look at the neighbors house across the street and see that it was clean. Here are some pics that I took this afternoon before we started cleaning up and a couple of the pile of limbs that we cut up:

A couple of the branches that fell out of the tree next the to house. The one on the top actually hit the roof of the house, but the end is all light branches so it slid off.

Saddam!

Today Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging for crimes against humanity in the 1982 killing of 148 people in a single Shiites town. His half-brother and another senior official were also convicted and sentences to death.

Besides that life is pretty boring. School is going great. My grades are about what I want. In my first month for the EBBS program at Full Sail I got "A’s" in both my classes. Last month I got and "A" and a "B". The "B" was a little questionable; I was hanging on the edge between the "B" and a "C". I had done REALLY badly on the midterm and I needed a pretty good grade on the final to pull that up; and I got it. This month is Business Management and Business Accounting. The management class is super boring. So far the class has had little to do about management and more to do about the instructor's stories. I think that telling stories as a way manage is a pretty interesting idea, but there has been little application or explaining of it yet. Everyone in the class is in two different groups, one group is a small group for weekly presentations and the other group is a larger group for a final presentation. My final presentation is looking like it will be good. It is for an idea that I had a long time ago for a new invention and I have yet to see on the market too.

I have been picking up extra hours at work so that I could pay for my plane ticket out to California for Christmas. Now that I have that paid for I will have to figure out something else to start saving up money for.

I don't think that I have mentioned that my sister is getting married on December 9th. Almost everyone that I know is beating me to the punch on marriage. One of my old roommates is now engaged and the other one is dating a girl that he dropped out of school and moved back home so that he could be near her. Oh and by the way she’s 17 and he’s 22 or 23.

This is a great clip that I just watched on the CAD comic website. I have tried embedding video before and it did not work out to well, in fact I gave it up at that point. I am going to try it again and hope that it works. This will also explain why men don't go to the bathroom in groups.

Anyway, school has been real chore. Last month the teacher said that there would be a lot of reading for this month and she was way under-exaggerating, there is more than I can get done. Just when I think that I am caught up I pull out the list of stuff that I have to read and find out that I have twice as much to do for the next class THAT’S TWO DAYS AWAY, and I still have to read the material for my other class. When I say that I have to read it, I mean to have already read ahead so that I know what is happening when I get to class and so that when the mid-term comes I am not trying to do a bunch of catch up work.

Brad Pitt Won't Marry

Did you hear about this? Brad Pitt is saying that he won't marry Angelina Jolie (good news for every single man and woman out there) until the U.S. drops its restrictions on whom can marry whom. What, does he think that the government responds to the demands/whining of celebrities. I think that the man needs a reality check; the government is responsible for responding to the demands of the people. I know, celebrities are just over glorified people. But what gets me is that Yahoo! put it in their top news stories like it's some big deal. If I said that nobody would care. And what is even worse, is that the man is not going to marry the woman that he just had a child with because of a government policy. Now that’s love for you.

I really just needed to vent about that. I don't think that most of the people at school would have seen this my way.

On to other news, I guess that the Irwin thing was real. I saw the news story so soon after it happened that I had to question it. I have seen other news stories that were posted on Yahoo! that turned out to be false soon after they were posted. The world really has lost a big wild life lover.

Well, I have to finish my homework that is due in the morning. I just needed a little distraction.

I don't whether to believe this or not. The man is a major thrill seeker so I would think that he finally got what he deserved. But on the other hand, the man is a major thrill seeker and what a better thrill than to make everyone think that you have died. Thoughts anyone? I am leaning towards true though.

On a more personal note, I just finished reformatting my computer because it was starting to bug me with how long it would take to boot up. I am also back in school now and am enjoying my classes. On the first day of class I had orientation and I had a couple of paper and agreements to sign. One of then was stating that I know that the computer that I get with my degree program is not part of my tuition, even though I think that for how much I paid that it should. Anyway what upset me more was that Full Sail was going to give us Apple PowerBook G4s. I thought that was a little odd because the new Apple MacBook has been out of almost a year now. Then the of program director got up and said that we would be getting the MacBook the following week and that we were the first class to get to use them. Much happier now.

Washington DC

Now that I have the time I think that I will talk about my trip to DC. This post also coincides with me posting my pics from DC in my online photo album. Click here for a direct link to the DC pics.

It was a lot to fun to get to see the history of our nation’s capital, there was actually so much that it was overwhelming. My brother and I were able to see the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the WW II Memorial, the outside of the White House (front and back), the Library of Congress, the Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum, the National Archives and the Capitol Building. The Capitol Building required free tickets that you had to get in line for around 9am, so that was on the second day and we went to the Air and Space Museum to kill time until our tour time started, and after the tour we went to the National Archives. I would have liked to have done more but by the end of the first day I had a blister on my left little toe and my legs were so sore that I could barely walk and my brother wasn't in much better shape. That first day we walked the length of The Mall twice and I think is why I could hardly walk by the end of the 8 hour trek. We had a hotel that was only like 7 miles from the metro so that we could ride it in rather than try to find a parking spot in the city. Like I said there is so much history there that I don't want to take the time to talk about it. You can do your own research on the internet to find it all out.

Tomorrow I will talk some about my trip to Cali, that way this post does not get any longer.

We need the dark so that we can recognize the light.

Coloring With Crayons

I was a little bored a coulple of weeks ago and bought a box of Crayola crayons and a coloring book. It is kind of a fun thing to do and it is rather relaxing. The only embaracing thing was buying them in the first place. A 24 year old guy buying crayons and coloring books, looks a little weird, I think anyway. I thought that before I checked in for the night that I would share my first colored picture, done with crayon, that I have done in over 15+ years.

It is a web comic that I like to read called Ctrl Alt Del. It is mostly about gaming so I don't think that most of you will enjoy it, but I think that it is funny.

I just got back from Cali earlier this evening and I will talk about that much more later. Lots of "fun" stuff happened, to inclued but not limited to the house not passing the final inspection.

Vacation

I still two weeks until my new classes start and then after my first week of classes I have a 3 day weekend. As I mentioned in my last post I am leaving for Cali in the morning and will be there of 8 days.

Over the last two weeks my mom and brother were out here in Florida for my graduation. After graduation we headed up to North Carolina and dropped Mom off at her friend’s house in Waxhaw (go head say it, Waxoff). My brother and I continued up to Washington DC to do some site seeing. I took about 120 pictures so I will have to pick about 40 of them to put on my online photo album so that y'all can see them. But until I have the time to do that I will put a couple on here, to wet your appetite.

I really like the last one because it was a good angle.

Well I have to hit the hay so that can get a little sleep before I have to leave for the airport. I will post the rest of the pictures from DC in my album when I get home next week.

The Answer

The answer to the trivia question is: 7-Eleven. Bet you never thought of that.

I AM DONE WITH SCHOOL, well until Aug. 28th anyway. I already talked about this so I won't bore everyone with it. There are some certification tests for ProTools, the leading computer based recording software, which I took on Monday and Tuesday. I had to pass at least two of the three tests. One test was an overall test for ProTools, one focused on ProTools for Post Production and the other was on ProTools for Music. I passed the overall test and the post production test, plus I tried the music test twice and was unable to try it again because I ran out of time, but i know would have passed it the third and final time.

I am going to Cali to help my mom move. I was able to find tickets to fly out on Tuesday instead of Thursday so that I could come home a little sooner and have a little time at home before school starts again.

I am saving money for a PS3 right now. I figure that if I have the money set-a-side I will feel less guilty about buying one. The savings plan is pretty simple $60 a paycheck until the release date of Nov. 17, and if that day comes and I decide not to buy one I will have over $600 saved that I can spend on something needed rather then something wanted.

I will post the answer later to give everyone time to think about it. If you can find the answer before I post it leave a comment and I will give you kudos. I might start doing this more often I have a great resource for random question that are rather obscure.

I have a final at 1pm and I am done with the Recording Arts program at Full Sail. It has been a good learning experience and I would defiantly make the same choice again. Graduation is now a week away and I am looking forward to it and I might ditch my family and party with my class. I don't start the Bachelors program until Aug. 28th so I have a lot to time on my hand. My mom wants me to come out to Cali to help her move back in to her house. I think that I would be fun but I also want to stay here in Orlando and just chill and work. The jury is still out on this one.

I finally got a microphone and did some recording today. The mic is very sensitive compared to the last one that I used. I did some adlib and come up with some good stuff. I cannot wait until I can get something finish and copyrighted so that you all can hear it.

School is going great. I had a two day graded project that I had to do this week. I was shooting for a hundred but I missed two little things and got a 90 instead. I have a quiz tomorrow that I hope to do good on. I am still studying for it because I had a long weekend and did not get too much in.

With graduation fast approaching I am trying to figure out what to do with my 4 weeks off. One of the weeks will be taken up with my family being in town and the other 3 are still up in the air. I was thinking about going to Disney World one day but I don't think that it would be much fun to go by myself.

Two Weeks

Wow almost two weeks since my last post and I still don't have anything much to talk about.

I got a 92% in my class last month and was not to sad about it. I would have liked to have gotten an "A" but oh well.

I found that am going to have to step it up a little for this month so that I can get a 90% or above so that I can take the ProTools certifications tests. I got an 87.5% on my first quiz. Of course I only missed 5 questions but there was only 40 questions in the first place. I have another quiz on Firday and I plan on doing better.

I also had last week off for summer vacation. I had a great time working. Yep that is all that I did, sounds fun huh. I did get to work on the 4th, so it was time and a half and they let me work 10 hours too, a quick $140 in my pocket. Another great thing that happend over break was that I chipped a tooth and had to have a crown put on it. Fortunatly they numbed my so good that I could not feel a thing. The crown is only a temp and the perminant one next month.

I download a copy of Windows Vista Beta 2. You might remember me talking about an older beta of the software before. The new Beta is great. I like it better than the first because more of the features are up and running.

Anywho I think that is all for now, I will try to update a little more often.

I think that this little kitten was unwanted.

I haven't been doing much, hence the lack of posts. I started my new class on Monday. My new schedule is great, 9a-5p everyday and 9a-1p on Saturday, and I am not being sarcastic.

I went and saw Superman Returns today. I was really good. I don't want to say much more or I might give away the movie plot and sub-plots.

I think that I will end with a quote from Superman Returns. This is from a conversation between Superman and Lois Lane: (This is kind of adlibbed because I cannot remember it word for word)
"You [Lois] say that the world does not need a savior, but I [Superman] stand/hover here (here being in the sky above the city) and I can hear them calling out for one."Of course he is probably talking about himself, but I could be wrong and I hope that I am because that would be a really cool spiritual reference.

Done Mastering

The mastering is finished for my project from me class this month. I don't think that the artist would like it if I put it up here, so sorry that you cannot here the final mix. I would not want someone getting their hands on it, because I don't think that the artist has it copyrighted. Hopefully the artist will put the final mix up on their MySpace and take down the rough mix that is up there now.

I don't think that I mentioned that my schedule all month has been 9am - 1pm lecture and 9pm - 1am lab. Needless to say I don't think that I have had 8 hours of sleep at one time in the past two weeks, but I have adapted. Monday starts my last class and it's at 1:15pm, so will hopefully be able to get more sleep.

The Session

I got to record a group called "The New Jacks" for a project at school. The session and overdubs went really smooth and the lab instructor complemented us on how smooth it went. It still needs some mixing to improve the balance of all the sounds, but overall it's a good rough mix.

I am enjoying the having today off work, the only down side is that the dryer broke and now I have to take my clothes somewhere to dry them.

Congratulations to Walter, Kim, Christal, and Jen, sorry if I am forgetting anyone, who are graduating from Cal Poly SLO this weekend. I hope that you are ready to start you life of lots of work, little pay, and little play. As for me, I am still on track to graduate on the first week of August.

Not much else going on here in Florida. I got an "A" and a "B" in my classes last month.

More Toys

On Memorial Day the Guitar Center in Winter Park, FL was having a big sale and I went it to look at what they had. I had been in there a couple of time and know what I wanted to get so that I can start doing so recording of the songs that I have written. They had put the keyboard that I was looking at on sale and the recording interface was on sale also. I don't need the interface now because I won't be doing vocals for a while, but it was on sale. I guy that was helping me was really great he took a little extra off of everything; it still cost a small future for a person with little money though. I like it all and hope that someday soon I can finish one let you all listen to it.

Speaking of Memorial Day, I had a great three day weekend. This was also my free weekend from school; those are the weekends between classes where I don't have any school to worry about. I had to work Saturday morning and was supposed to work Sunday evening. My roommate had a big party with family and some friends at the house on Saturday, so I had that to look forward to when I got home from work. I had a couple of beers and a daiquiri, but I spread it out of the course of 6 hours so I was never really drunk. I had these great beers called Smirnoff Twisted V (five), they came in grape, green apple, and cherry and they tasted like soda pop. So good. On Sunday I went swimming up at Wekiwa Springs with my roommate’s family instead of going to work. I really needed the time relax and so I did. So how was your break, if you got one?

Tuesday started a new class, that's right only one this month, and it is Session Recording. It took 10 months to get the reason why that I can to recording school, but here I am.

I guess that I was wrong about American Idol. I thought that she had more going for her then Taylor did. And I am not just talking about that fact that she was smoking hot, but she was younger and had a more now voice. What I mean when I say "now" is that she can sing from a more contemporary library and Taylor had more of classics voice, he did great with some of the older numbers that sang.

I was watching a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode a couple of months ago and noticed that the center channel, where most of the dialogue track in a surround sound mix is, on my surround sound system started to get quieter. I thought that it was my imagination, at first. A couple of weeks ago it was so bad that the dialogue was gone completely. I did a little research and found a new system that sounded pretty good. I thought that I would put up some pictures of it.

The whole system was a Home Theater in a Box deal. It's called the YHT-370 made my Yamaha. I know that they make motorcycles but they also make a speaker that is a standard in all recording studios, so they do make good audio components too. The amp that came with the system is a HTR-5935. I had to buy a DVD player to go with it, so I figured why not get one that can play the new CDs called SACD (Super Audio CD) and DVD-audio discs also. The DVD player is a Pioneer DV-588A. I had to build that little shelf for the DVD player because the amp gets pretty hot and I didn't want to damage either unit.
The rear speakers aren't much to look at but they get the job done.
This last picture is obviously not part of the surround sound system. This is my new computer monitor. I know back at Christmas time I said that I had ordered a new LCD to replace my CRT. I had to cancel that order because the company flaked out on shipping the item, but at least they did not charge me. This one is a ViewSonic VX-922. It is pretty much just for gaming. When I try to watch a movie straight from a DVD it gets a little sparkly.

After spending that money I still state that the one of the main reasons that I don't I have a girlfriend is that I don't the money. Just to clear this up, I am not saying that women cost, well not the good ones anyway they want you for you, but that as a guy I feel that it is my obligation to pay stuff on dates (i.e. dinner and a movie). I even do it when it's not an "official" date.

I was watching X-Men 2 the other day and one of the characters quoted a piece of Psalm 23 so I am going to end with that.

It's the same old story as always. A's in both classes. Well one of them was almost a "C". When looked closed at it I realized that my instructor had forgotten to post my second quiz score. I emailed him and got it corrected. I have already had one quiz and one practical in my new class, 97 and 95 respectively. If I can keep that up I won't have any problem this month either.

I forgot to talk about what happened on the plane on my home from CA. First to start I was in the middle row with only one other person there, so there was a empty seat in between us. Then these two, as my brother would put it, yahoos from, I think it was Australia, came and the other lady moved so that they could sit together. The one that sat next to me reeked of cigarette smoke. Then were delayed taking off by about and 45 minutes. It was an electrical problem; one of the fans that cools the flight computer had gone out. I was getting really tired of sitting next to this guy, so started looking for somewhere else to sit. I thought that I spotted another row with only one person sitting in it and he was by the window. I got up and asked if there was anyone else sitting there and he said no. I moved my stuff and sat down. There was lady sitting across the way with three kids. I saw a guy come over and take one of the kids to where he was sitting in plane. Fast forward to later in the flight. The man and his wife had switched seats and now he had the kids and the flight attendants had started serving a second round of drinks. I had been watching a movie on my PSP and was starting to feel noushise, then I started to feel light headed and I knew that I was going to pass out. I hit the call button and the next thing that I knew the guy from across the way was in my face with his hand shoved in my chest trying to wake my up. He was a doctor. If had been where I was before he would have been further away from me. They got me some oxygen and food and I felt better. They left the oxygen bottle for me use. I kept feeling a little light headed now and then so kept grapping the mask for more oxygen. They eventually came and took the bottle and I was okay and then I passed out again. This time nobody noticed and I woke up on my own. The only thing that I can think that caused this was the fact that I had been drinking a lot of caffeine because of my drive from SF to LA. I think that it my bodies form of detox. On the last leg of my trip I slept from wheels up in Atlanta to wheels down in Orlando.

The next week I had a similar problem but I was able get something to eat before it was a big problem. Again I had had caffeine about two days before. Think that there's a link?

The Trip

Of course I am talking about my trip to California over Easter. I had a great time with my family. I was able to take my brother on a tour of Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco bay. It was a great experience, there is so much history there that I did not know about. I won't take the time to talk about it, you will have to go and see/hear it for yourself. That was on Wednesday. That night I drove all the way from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Unlike Alcatraz, that is something that I would not suggest doing. I had to stop about once an hour as we started getting close to LA so that could get out of the car and stretch my legs.

When we got to LA we stayed at my Grandparents house in Orange. The reason that I went to LA in the first place was to take a tour of a recording studio is Hollywood. After the tour we went back to my Grandparents, they own a photography studio, a chapel for weddings, and a restaurant/snack bar at a golf course for holding reception dinners. I hadn’t got to see them in over a year. They are both kind of workaholics and they both took a lot of time out of their day to be with us. That is first. After returning to the studio from the tour, I wanted to see the restaurant/snack bar up at the golf course. They asked if we wanted to take the Rolls-Royce, of course my brother and I said yes. The Rolls-Royce is a 1974 white Silver Shadow in near mint condition. They use it as a chauffeur coach for driving around grooms and brides. My grandpa drove us all up to the golf course and they called ahead of cheese burgers. We eat lunch and looked around a little. Then I got to drive back to the studio, with a couple of stops in between. After that we hung around the photography studio for a while and waited to rush hour traffic to die down a little, then started back to San Luis Obispo.

I think that I end it here. I have my grades from last month, but I will talk about that later.

I forget to post the big announcement; my last post was my 100th post. I guess it's not that big but I thought that all the people that don't read this blog would like to know. I wish that had someway to celebrate. A new sign off might be nice, but I so like the one that I use now, plus last time I changed it I kept forgetting what it was and had to look back at my last post to make sure that I get it right. My current one shows my love for Christ and Star Trek; it's hard to beat that. I think that I will do that though. I will try to come up with a new inspirational saying as my sign off for the blog. The Weather

Well it's a great conversation starter anyway. I was at work tonight when all of the sudden there was a loud thunder roll. That first roll was at about 12:30 am and it did not stop until I got home at 2 am. We finally finish at work at about 1:45 and I was able to see what the storm looked like. The lighting just kept flashing on my 20 minute drive home and from all around, it was pretty cool. One of the things that I like about Florida is the weather.

Scrubs

Probably one of my favorite TV shows on right now is Scrubs. I did not get a chance to download last week’s episode until today. As the show started into its final couple of minutes I started to listen to the background music and realized that it was a Christian music song. I typed the lyrics into Yahoo and found out the song was "All The Words" by Kutless. The whole song was played without being cut up to hide the Christian meaning of the song. This would make the second time that I have heard Christian music on Scrubs. I think that it is cool that NBC allows this. Unfortunately the only reason that I notice is because of school and I don't know if the average person would hear it or not. Still cool though.

Cool Camera

I was at work today and I of my most favorite cameras that we sell at Target was on clearance. When Target first carried the camera, it was $400 which was worth it but too expensive for me. Over the last year we had dropped the price down to $330 and now that it was on clearance it was $280. Since the last one was the floor model we could sell it for 30% off of that price plus I got my team member discount. All in all it only cost me $190, which is over 1/2 off the original price one year ago. It is a Nikon Coolpix 7600 7 mega pixel camera with a 3x optical zoom. I took a couple of pics on the drive home with it.

Not that I would recommend doing this with your camera but it looks really cool. This is a picture of me holding the camera out my car window and taking a picture of the car behind me. The car that was back there had those blue head lights.

The Results Are In

I did it again. I got two "A"s last month. That makes 5 in a row. Well I cannot take all the glory I could not do it without God. I usually don't go through me tests after I finish them but this time I felt that I should. After finishing the test the first time I checked all my answers and found five questions that I had gotten wrong. I did that same thing on my MIDI final a couple of months ago and found about 7 that I had mismarked. If I had not have found those five this time I would have gotten a "B"; not that I "B" is bad but I know that I can do better than that.

I have been playing my iPod through my 360 the last couple of days and with my iPod on shuffle it continues to play mostly Christian music. You might think that is normal considering that I am a Christian and that most of the music on it should be Christian, but that is not the case. There is more secular music on there than Christian music. Weird.

I think that 2 posts in one day is enough, plus I am running out of things to talk about.

I am going to be going to California on my spring break, which is April 15-23. I hope to be able to line up tours at some Post Houses and Recording Studios in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The tours are a great networking opportunity for me by allowing my to meet someone from a studio and give them my name, so that when I send an application to them they might remember me.

In 2003, NASA's Aqua satellite captured this view of a solar eclipse's shadow on our planet. And what brought this topic up, the fact that there will be a total solar eclipse of Africa and Asia tomorrow morning. A total solar eclipse happens about every 18 months.

My 360 Rocks

I know that I could plug my iPod into my 360 but I had never tried it before. Well it works and I don't even have to touch my iPod. My 360 allows me to look at the music on my iPod and play it. I can also do the same thing with my PSP. So cool.

I am in the process of reading a Pro Tools book, the recording industries standard for computer recording. The book is one of the textbooks that school gave me, which I have not been reading, but in order to get an "A" this month I need to get over a 90 on my lecture final on Saturday and 100 on my lab final. The book is about 400 pages and I am reading 100 pages a day so that I can have it done by tomorrow. Well that is mostly true, about 30 pages in the 100 are labs and I don't feel like reading those right now.

Long Time No See

The reason for the two week silence was that nothing interesting has been happening worth talking about.

I got another “A” in my class last month. That makes three in a row. I have to make sure that I don’t start slacking off now because I think that I know it all. Keyword there was think.

I am considering getting a small recording rig, a microphone, and a keyboard and making some fat beats, a.k.a. songs. The downside to this plan is that it will cost a minimum of $4k. The keyboard that I want is $3k, the microphone is $300, studio monitors $500, and a sound board with Pro Tools 7 LE is $2000. I don’t have to get the last item because I have a copy of Nuendo 3, a recording software similar to Pro Tools, and I can get a control surface, basically a big mouse with faders and knobs so that I can automate my mixes, for fairly cheap. It’s just that being fairly proficient with Pro Tools will get a little further in the recording/post-production industry.

I pick up a new book to read for recreation. Its Donald Miller’s new one called “To Own A Dragon”. If you have not read “Blue Like Jazz” by him them I was would suggest that you do so. This one is about him going up without a father and his mentor that, though did not replace Don’s father, helped him realize what it meant to be a father and a man.

So, my roommate downloaded the first season of Lost and I transferred it from his computer to mine and now I'm hooked. Every episode ends with a twist that makes you want to watch the next one. That's all fine and dandy when it's on TV and you have to wait to week to watch the next one, but when you can watch them one right after the next you don't want to stop because you want to know what is going to happen in the next episode. Fortunately and can figure out most the show just by listening to it. That allows me to make and study the flash card my flash cards for school.

I added picture to my online photo album this morning. I took these pictures before I moved to Florida; hence the name of the album is “San Luis Creek”.

It's been a week since my last post, which I guess isn't that long when you consider that some of the other blogs that I read don't get updated that often either. Not much interesting has happened, like anything ever does. Schools good. I mentioned in my last blog that my right hand was giving trouble, well it stopped hurting for a couple of days and then it started again. When I first try to make a fist I can only close it far enough to drop a nickel through it. After I little while of just closing my hand over and over I can get it closed most of the way.

I did manage to get sick last week. I think that I am going to blame it on my friend Christal because she was the last sick person that I talked to. It doesn't matter that she lives 3000 miles away and we were only talking over AIM and that one of the guy at school, that is my lab group of 6 people, was sick last week before I was. It wasn't all that bad really, just a cough and a stuffed up nose.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Well, the title says it all. Or if you are like me you might be celebrating Singles Awareness Day; which just by chance is abbreviated S.A.D., somehow I don't think that's a coincidence. I am not to sure how you're supposed to celebrate SAD, but I am sure that it involves sitting at you computer and watching Star Trek and Scrubs Season 2.

Though I am not sad about being single, I am a little miffed about what I did to my right hand. I don't have any trouble typing but as soon as I try to close it into a fist, so that I punch a hole in the wall because I am tired of being alone, opps just kidding, I cannot because of the pain in my fingers. They are REALLY stiff and I feel like I cannot move them. I think that I pulled a muscle when I was holding a stack of CDs at work and it was a little to tall of my hands, but I opened my hand up and grabbed it anyway. Ouch it hurts. I do most everything with my right hand; I say most everything because I do some things with my left hand.

Sunday night it got so cold back here that if actually froze. And as I was leaving work last night the windshield on my car was iced over and this was only at 1:00am. Plus I had to start my car early this morning because there was ice on the windshield again. Of course typical for Florida tonight it is supposed to be 45 degrees and tomorrow night it is supposed to be 55 degrees.

I guess that I should mention what two consoles those channel I/Os (Input/Outputs) belong to. The one on the left is for the Amek/Neve 9098i. The console that we use in lab is a 72 channel console that would cost about $500,000 used. The one on the right is from the SSL 9000J. Again the one that we use in lab is a 40 channel console and would probably cost about $300,000 used.

I get to learn to use these boards this month. We learn how signal flows through the console. That is why I made a poster of them, so that I could track the signal flow and learn what everything does for my test tomorrow.

I think that I am going to scrap my usual send off from now on. What I am going to do instead is open my Bible to a random page and choose a random verse. So here goes nothing:

What Hanging on Your Wall?

So guys like to hang posters of cars, half naked woman, or a poster with both on their walls. Not I. I prefer my homemade Channel I/O strip poster.

Not pictured is a diagram for a patchbay that I put up later. This picture was also taken before I wrote all over it. Now there are arrows to the different knobs, faders, and buttons (we actually call them switches though) describing what each one does. Lots of fun. I am such a geek, but at least I don't play hacky sack during break like some people at school. That's right I said Hacky Sack. Talk about geeky.

Betas

I have gotten the opportunity to work with the beta versions for both Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Vista. Both are pretty good.

First Internet Explorer 7. This is actual a public beta so anyone can use it, but it also came with the Vista beta. I used it in both Windows XP and Windows Vista beta. I had the same problems with both. The videos that I was trying to watch would not load. It had to do with some problem within Windows Media Player. The good thing are the tabs. You can still open multiple instances if IE7, but now you can also open multiple websites within one window using the "tabs" across the top. In the version that I was using in XP there was no Standard menu bar, that is the bar that has the File, Edit, View, Favorite, Tools, and Help menu, in the version that came with Vista it is there though. I use that bar a lot and I really missed it.

Now, Windows Vista Beta 2. Because this it not out on public release I cannot talk too much about it. The only real problem that I am having with it right now is that it is a little slow to respond. Besides that there is not much that I don't like. The interface doesn't look much different from XP. The windows have a different look that I like. I had to change the XP windows style back to the original because they looked to fluffy. The edges of the windows are little transparent so that the background can be seen. There are couple of new games that came with it, but they did get rid of Pinball though.

Fortunately both of these are still in the beta stage and still have a lot of work to go. As of right now I would recommend Vista as an upgrade for XP, so of the older versions of Windows didn't change much. Like I said before there are not big changes on the outside, but it is much more enjoyable than XP. I think that it was well worth the 5 year wait between versions.

I was looking at the news on Yahoo this morning and found these two stories:

I don't know who is paying for this research, but I sure hope that is not my tax dollars. Most parents will tell their kids’ that just because they are 18 doesn't mean that they know everything. Why do we need a study to tell us that?

And as far as the weight gain thing, that is an average. I was told that's actual 15 Lbs. and called the "Freshmen 15". Freshmen get to college and start eating out more, drinking beer, and when they do eat at home it is usually not healthy. If they have had parents that taught them how to cook, thank Mom and Dads, they might eat better. One of my old roommates couldn't do much in the kitchen and the other three of us were pretty good in the kitchen.

Super Bowl!!!!! I was really rooting for the under dog, but they lost. Maybe that is why they‘re called under dogs. My roommate brought home a DLP projector from his work, so essentially we had an 84" TV to watch the Super Bowl on. It was awesome. I was also able to hook me Xbox 360 up to it and played Gun, Call of Duty 2, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted on it. I also didn't get any homework done over the weekend. Oh well.

I rule!!!! I got an "A" in both of my classes last month. I knew that I at least had an "A" in one class but I didn't know about my other one. I ended up with a 98.5% in one and a 95.4% in the other. Just a reminder, at Full Sail a 95% and above is an "A". This is the first month that I have gotten an "A" in both classes. I attribute this mostly to getting enough sleep every night so that I was awake for class at 9am. I didn't even have to study that much. Well it doesn't seem that I had to study that much or maybe for once I studied the right stuff; who really care.

This month is starting to look a lot harder than last. There is quite a bit of stuff that I have to memorize. I am still enjoying it though. The bad thing is that they changed my school schedule from a Monday-Friday schedule to a Tuesday-Saturday schedule. That means that I will have to miss two days of work because I have to be at class and I really need the money so that I can pay off the credit card that I put my car repairs on.

I have rediscovered internet radio. I was told that Winamp had some streaming TV stations, so I was looking at those and found a SHOUTcast TV station that plays Pinky and the Brain all of the time. Unfortunately there is only room for 10 people on the server at one time, so I don't get to watch it that much. While looking at the TV stations I noticed that there was also SHOUTcast Radio. Free, commercial free and most of the time DJ free; that's more free then most people can handle.

I added a link to my links on the side to a guy that lives in Santa Barbara. Just of the record I don't know him. It's just a photo blog but these are the best picture that I have ever seen. If you get a chance also check out his website for his wedding photograph business, they are absolutely beautiful pictures.

I seem to have this bad habit of not posting for a week and then posting one really long blog. Not that it matters, I don't think that anyone really reads my blog anyway.

The Dodge Challenger Concept

Even if you don't like cars check this out. It is a video for the challenger concept-car. I hope that Dodge doesn’t change anything for its release. I notice that most of the old American Muscle cars are going retro again. The concept for the Chevy Camaro is the same way. Well, it looks more like it should be the new style for the Corvette.

End of the Month

My classes are rapping up. I had a final today, a lab final tomorrow, and a lecture and another lab final on Saturday. I have been doing well with my classes this month. I attribute that to more sleep and a better focus on God. I am doing pretty well about keep my News Years resolutions. I have not read my bible in about 4 days, but since my goal is to finish by the end of the year I figure that I catch up later. My classes next month run Tuesday - Saturday. I don't like much but oh well what can I do. I will have to change my work schedule so that I can have Saturdays off.

I will miss being able to hang out with my old college group this year for the Super Bowl. It was nice to hang with a Christian crowd. If someone of school invites me over I don't know if I will go or not. There will be beer there, not that that bothers me, and maybe some other illegal substances, and that does bother me.

Gaming

So, I was reading a news post from this web comic. This web comic is a gamer and most of his news are about video games and related video game topic. One of his posts from Friday was a about a fellow gamer that committed suicide. Very sad. Now here comes the really bad part. I don't know if you have heard of this guy or not, his name is Mr. Jack Thompson, he is totally against any kind of video game. Here is his reply to the story:

"Your "gamer friend" will find peace through the Lord, Jesus Christ, but sadly it's too late for that. [Ouch]

There is a void in every heart. You can fill it up with the things of God, or the things not of God. This unfortunate soul chose to fill it up with combat games. [Good point] The playing of these video games is masturbatory activity, meaning senseless self-stimulation. If you gamers could use a dictionary you would know that that term is not necessarily a sexual one. [Ouch, that's just low.]

The real tragedy here extends beyond the life and death of this one fellow. There are literally millions of young people and young adults whose despair is deepend by turning to the things of this world and then finding them meaningless.

All of you gamers need to put down the controllers and get a life. The utter inanity of the vast majority of postings here shows how vapid "gaming" really is.

You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.

Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess. [Ouch again]

I don't consider myself a gamer. I don't have to have every new game that comes out and I don't feel the need to spend hours upon hours playing video games. I do enjoy playing video games and I have spent hours upon hours playing them, but not all at once. This guy is now on my bad side. I don't think that his insults about not knowing how to use a dictionary and not wanting to leave the computer to call 911 and appropriate, especially for the situation.
